Whew! I’ve just finished the 100 Blog Challenge!

making money onlineWhat a relief,  I have just finished the 100 blog comment challenge. If you want to know what it was all about I wrote about it in a previous post: Generating Traffic with the 100 Blog Challenge.

It was no mean feat either I can tell you. I started on 8th August and finished last night the 25th,  just five days before the deadline. Although I decided at the beginning that I would visit 5 blogs a day sometimes I didn’t. At one stage I thought that I would never finish it in time. It seemed a never ending task.

Generating Blog Traffic with the 100 Blog Challenge

making money on the internetNow this is one of those ideas that makes you say why didn’t I think of that. Like all good ideas it seems so obvious after someone has come up with it. After all the oil rig hopping that I was doing for generating blog traffic for Alex’s blog traffic competition a couple of months ago this should be a breeze.

What is the 100 Blog Challenge?

The challenge is to get 100 individual comments on a blog post. The idea was born out of a throwaway comment Jacinta Dean made on an internet training forum.

Are You Blogging For Fun Or To Make Money On The Web?

Many people think that blogging is fun and very easy and that you can make money on the web without much effort.

You may have read some eBooks where they tell you that all you have to do to make money online is to start blogging, add some AdSense code and promote some affiliate products in your posts and you will make money.

While it may appear like that when you look at some successful bloggers, let me tell you it doesn’t work quite like that. Most successful bloggers have put in some serious work to get their blogs making money for them.

Blogging for Web Site Traffic – Branding Yourself

Well this week’s mentoring has been about getting free traffic to our blogs.  The whole purpose of getting traffic is to get people to sign up to your lists so you can make money working online. There have been 5 Webinars over 5 consecutive evenings packed with the most amazing stuff ever. Talk about information overload. So much to do, I hardly know where to start.  There are many many ways of driving traffic to your blog but as I go oil rig hopping around other student’s blogs it’s clear that if you are blogging for website traffic you have to brand yourself to be a successful blogger.

Some of the students are already standing out from the crowd with the way they write and are getting a lot of comments on their posts because of it. I feel deflated. Why can’t I write like that? My post seems so mundane by comparison. Will people be interested in what I have to say?

I’m Getting Seasick With All This Oil Rig Hopping!

Yes, that’s what my mentor Alex says to do to get traffic to your blog. Oil rig hopping is his term for blog commenting. This week’s seminars are all about getting free traffic to your blog.  With one seminar each night it’s been mind blowing so far and there is still more to come!

Alex likens blogs to oil rigs. Algae grows on the legs of the oil rigs which attracts shell fish. They attract little fish which in turn attracts the bigger fish. Your blog content is the algae and the people who comment on your posts are the fish.

Oil rig Hopping

Oil rig hopping is visiting other people’s blogs and leaving valuable comments on their posts. This activity has the effect of naturally driving traffic to your own blog if done correctly. Traffic is the lifeblood of your blog.  You can offer your visitors  free stuff to entice them to join your email list, send them to your website or affiliate products.  This is how you can make money working online.

Where’s Your About Page? I’m Nosey and I Want to Know More About You

As I am visiting (or oil rig hopping as Alex calls it – a subject for a future post) other blogs to see what some of Alex Jeffreys other students have written I notice that some haven’t got an About Page. It may be just that they just have not had the time yet and that they will add one soon.Alex has said just get your blog going and that is what many are doing.

But, I have come across other blogs that don’t have an About Page. I don’t know about you but I feel cheated. I’m nosey and if I like the blog and the blog posts I am curious about the person behind it.

Dilemmas of Picking My Blog Name

I’ve set up a couple of blogs before and all the stuff I’ve read about picking a blog name says to do keyword research first and to include your best keyword or words in the title. Then along comes coach Alex, (I know he gets a kick out of being called that). Forget about keywords, he says. Set up your blog in your own name and tell your story. Make it about your journey into internet marketing and how to make money on the internet.
