I Am Getting Mobile

I have just spent the last 3 weeks on holiday in Spain, soaking up the fantastic hot sunny weather. It was a bit of a shock arriving back to this cold weather here I can tell you.  While I was there I noticed an article in one of the free English newspapers about how to make a website mobile friendly.

It seems that nearly everyone except me has a smart phone these days so I had not thought about this before. Although it’s possible to view a website on a mobile device space is short and not everything that you would normally see on your laptop or PC will fit on the mobile screen easily.

Apparently iPhones have browsers that make viewing regular webpages simple but if you rely on traffic for your business, and who doesn’t, you could lose a lot if you don’t have a mobile version of your website. It will load faster and your content can be seen more easily on a wide range of phones.

The more I read about the problem the more confused I became but this morning, as luck would have it, I was watching a replay of a Webinar I missed while I was away. It was  about optimising WordPress blogs and I discovered a simple answer for my making my blog mobile friendly.

All I had to do was to install the WP Touch plugin.  This free plugin makes your WordPress blog easy to view from a variety of mobile devices like iPhone, iPod touch, Android, or BlackBerry Storm touch.

There is also a paid version of the plugin but I am going to try out the basic free version first.  You can download it from here:  http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wptouch/

If you want to find out if your website is mobile friendly you can check it out here:

Have you made your website mobile friendly yet?  If you have any tips please leave me a comment.

  1. Hi Sandy. You are not alone. I don’t have a smart phone either. As long as I can do calls and texts then I’m happy but I know that I will need to catch up with the rest of the world soon and get myself one.

I recently came across a website that can convert your own blog/site into an app for smartphones. Everything looks good about it and it seems easy BUT I have not checked it out properly yet nor tried and tested either so have a look for yourself and make up your own mind about it.

If anyone out there gets to it before I do then maybe you can share your thoughts with everyone back here.

    It’s at http://www.appsgeyser.com

    Wishing you success.

    1. Hi Josh, Thanks for the useful information. I will have a look at the site.
There are a lot of sites where you can convert your website into one that is mobile friendly for free and some paid ones too.
It’s a bit of a minefield out there. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. I guess Apple had a good reason why they came out with the 4s and not iPhone5. Looks like fans will have to wait until June or July 2012 from what I’ve read.
