How was your year? Did you achieve all your goals? Some of your goals? All of your goals? This is the time of the year when you should have already have a plan that will keep you focused and on track for the year ahead if you want to make money on the web.
Before you start any planning for the year ahead it’s essential to look back over the past year to see how you did.
I have asked myself these questions and you should too:
- What worked well for my business in 2010?
- What did I do in 2010 that didn’t work well at all?
Once I have answered these I then ask myself some more questions:
- What worked well, but could have done better in 2010?
- Why did the things that did not work well fail?
- Why did the things that worked well succeed?
Once you have answered these questions you will be well on your way to make a plan for making money on the internet in 2011.
Planning
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “If You Fail to Plan, You Plan to Fail”. Planning is where many get hung up.
While everyone talks about setting goals and visualizing what you want to achieve, you also have to be able to identify the individual steps you are going to take to get there.
Visualize, Plan, Take action
Your basic outline plan should ideally cover 12 months but if you can’t think this far ahead then cut it down to 3 months. That can be far less daunting if you are just starting out.
Above all you have to take action. Everything you do for your business should take you one step closer to your next goal and your final vision.
Things rarely fall perfectly into place though. A successful entrepreneur is flexible enough to rewrite their plan when things do not go exactly according to the original plan.
Strength & Weakness
Being aware of what you are good at and being able to admit where your weaknesses lie is a real attribute of successful entrepreneurs. Focusing on what you do well is one way to ensure success, but how do you deal with the tasks you are not so good at?
If your weakness is merely a lack of knowledge, a coaching or training course can be the answer. If your weakness is due to a lack of skill, you may want to consider outsourcing.
When you set up your own business you don’t necessarily have all the answers, and you don’t need them. What you do need, however, is the drive and motivation to find out new information.
Focus, Focus Focus
As you plan out the year ahead it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the tasks you have to do. The key is to focus on one priority at a time. Make sure you finish one task before you start on another.
Empty your mind of thoughts that do not relate to that task. Write these thoughts down if you are worried you will forget them by the time you need them.
Plan to have fun
Don’t forget to plan to have some fun. While you have to put in a lot of work to make money online you know the saying all work and no play……….. Having some down time is important so that you can unwind and relax. You will feel much more motivated when you start to work again.
