Will Optin Crusher Increase My Optins?

Did you notice the optin form that rolled up at the bottom of the page soon after you arrived here?  Neat isn’t it?

According to its creator, Daniel Watrous, “Optin Crusher  is the best way to get your website visitor’s attention without interrupting them, and to get them onto your email list.” Well, we’ll see!

I previously used the Popup Domination plugin when I was promoting my Free Traffic Deluge report to build my subscriber list but I disabled it when I decided that the report was getting out of date. I decided to create an entirely new report, SEO Crusher which is what you will see roll up the footer.

Although Popup Domination can increase your optins it does kinda hit you in the face and I know some readers hate it.

So, when Sam England recommended Optin Crusher to his Facebook Group I decided to take a look at it.

Optin Crusher was created by Daniel Watrous, a talented Software Engineer, and would you believe that he’s giving it away? There is no catch either. All he asks is that you either leave his link on it or write a post about it so this post is what I decided to do.

It is VERY easy to install and set-up. Daniel provides good instructions for installing it and setting it up. Gee, if I can do it, anyone can do it!

You literally do not need to know code or graphics programs to get this operating on your WordPress blog in minutes!  You can use it with Aweber, iContact, Constant Contact, FeedBlitz, GetResponse and MailChimp.

Here’s a short video that Daniel made to show you exactly how it works.

The only slight problem I have with it is the getting the text to look right in the light box. This is the box that pops up when you click on the “click for details” under the Free Report Instant access on the left.

You will see that there is not enough space between the lines. I have just submitted a support ticket about it.

I have done a search to see if I could find it anyone had written a post about their experiences with getting optins with it but have not been able to find any figures. Daniel says that it doubled the optins of one his his clients.

Lynn Terry of Click Newz has said in a post “I’ve installed this free WordPress Plugin here on ClickNewz so you can see it in action. You’ll notice a blue newsletter subscription form loaded in the footer…”

It’s no longer there so I guess she didn’t find it very effective.

Copy Hackers mention that they use it but I didn’t see it there either. “In addition to the subscription form in the Coquette theme, I use 2 different WordPress plugins to generate interest in and signups for my email list:

1. ViperBar / ViperChill – A nice, clean bar at the top of the page, which can contain either sales messaging or email signup fields

2.Optin Crusher – A less attractive but admittedly effective pop-up at the bottom of the screen – where it stays out of the way of visitors”

I have only just installed it so I don’t know yet if Optin Crusher will be effective or not. I will report back after I have tested it for a while.  If you want to give it a try you can download it right HERE:

What do you find most effective for getting optins on your site?

  1. I don’t understand the concept of email lists. They look like a hassle which don’t bring any traffic. Are they worth using?

    1. Hi Utkarsh,

Have you heard the saying “The money is in the list”? Once you build an email list you have the chance to contact your subscribers over and over again. Many internet marketers make their money that way by promoting their own or other people’s products in the emails they send out. A certain percentage of people will buy the product if you do it right and the things you promote solve a problem your subscriber has. That’s what is meant by the money is in the list.

They can bring traffic because you can direct your subscribers back to your website when you email them. Admitedly it’s not new traffic but it depends on what you are aiming for with your site.
I see that on your site you say “He is an undergraduate who loves to waste his time on the internet”. Instead of wasting time you could be making money from your efforts! 🙂

      Have a great day.

  2. Hey Sandy,

I’m not usually a fan of slide-in type things but this one actually seems to be okay. It’s unobtrusive, well-designed and when it’s minimised even the little “Special Offer” button isn’t in the way. I also like the way the the video on your post here actually scrolls on top of the form when scrolling the page. That’s just a little thing that, I suppose, is neither here nor there, but I’ve never seen anything do that before and I’m always a sucker for anything a little quirky! I might try this one out myself and what effect, if any, it has.

To Utkarsh, Sandy’s absolutely correct in what she says about the reasons for a mailing list. Anyone who’s serious about building an Internet Marketing business absolutely must have a mailing list. Yes, it’s ‘possible’ to survive without one, but to do so is passing up an enormous marketing tool and would make absolutely no sense to avoid making use of it. Imagine a Direct Marketer who didn’t have a mailing list to send letters to. Imagine any company at all who didn’t place adverts through media such as TV, newspapers, etc. Imagine a family member or friend who lived on the other side of the world and didn’t keep in touch with you. In all these examples, if the persons just sat there and expected people to just come and find them and for everyone else to take the initiative in making contact, then while it is certainly possible that this could happen it wouldn’t make any sense to restrict themselves in this way. In much the same way, an email list affords you the valuable opportunity to build relationships with your subscribers, helping them to know, like and trust you. Additionally, you can quickly, easily and immediately alert them to your latest products offers, news, discoveries and so forth. And if you promote affiliate products, again you can use your mailing list to get the word out to potentially thousands of people at once with just a few minutes of work and clicks of your mouse. Imagine that you have a list of just 10,000 subscribers. Supposing you promote to them, let’s say, a coaching program that costs $500. If only 1% of your list makes a purchase then that’s $50,000 you’ve made. Yes it can take some time and work to actually build up your list, but the exposure and versatility that an established, responsive list gives you is invaluable. Hence, why “the money is in the list” 😉

    1. Hey Glenn

I noticed the way the video scrolls on top of the form too. Quite clever.

There is a way to make the color match my theme but I haven’t watched that particular video yet. I think I can also get the image of my free report onto it.

Thanks for giving a fuller explanation of the value of having an email list to Utkarsh.

      Enjoy your weekend.

    1. I’ve seen ViperBar in action on some blogs or something similar that was being promoted recenlty but I don’t think it is as eye catching as Optin Crusher. As with everything else in Internet Marketing you have to test, test, test.

  3. I like the boxes on social triggers; each box is easy to find, out of the way, and backed by data. I think the best is just creating your own form or having one designed for you so that it stands out without blocking any of the more important website elements for navigation.

I just have it a box on my subscribe page. I still have grown a pretty big list without having to have the sign up form everywhere.

    1. Hi Susan,

Not sure what you mean by the boxes on social triggers and being backed up by data.

I think every one has to test out various options to see what works best for them. It can vary from niche to niche.

The good thing about Optin Crusher is that it is out of the way and does not block anything but I have yet to see if it will be effective.

  4. Sandy,

Thanks for sharing. I too believe that building an email list is a very viable strategy in internet marketing. The money truly is in the list and if you don’t have a list, you’re in for a long ride. I don’t believe I’ve seen the optin crusher before until now. I jumped over and downloaded it and it is now on my site. I will give it a go and see how it works for me.

I guess I’m a sucker for software/plugins, but hey, if they work, why not. I dont’ want to have so much stuff on my site and make it less appealing or attractive for the visitor. I want them to have a very memorable experience and hopefully what I share can help them tremendously.

    Good luck with everything.

    1. Hi Jerry,

I have just taken a look at your site and the optin crusher looks good. ( I have yet to try to get mine a better color to match my theme. Would love to hear the results you get from it.

It seems worth using it to me as it does not get in the way. The danger with that of course is that it is ignored. But, as with everything in internet marketing you have to test, test test. What works for one may not work for another.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to leave your comment.

  5. Hi Sandy,

    I hope you’re enjoying Spain.

The plugin sounds really useful, but it’s not showing up on my iPad, do I need to change some settings?

I noticed cookies were not turned on but turning them on didn’t have any effect.

I’ll give it a try on my Windows desktop at home

    Thanks, Sandy. – Steve

    1. Hi Steve,

That’s interesting. Will have to check that I have not switched it off by mistake. I have no idea about whether it works on iPads or not.
Let me know if it works for you on your Windows desktop.

      Sandy

  6. Hi Sandy,

Sorry I didn’t get back sooner, but the plugin works great on my desktop and laptop, both with Windows 7 systems.

It looks great, too. I believe this would probably get more signups that the typical opt-in box.

I really like the way it’s unobtrusive. It’s really annoying when a lightbox or popup jumps out when I’m right in the middle of reading someone’s post.

I think I’m going to have to give this a try.

    Thanks, Sandy. – Steve

    1. Hi Steven,

Glad to hear that the plugin worked on your desktop and laptop when you got home.

Let me know how it works for you.

      Sandy
